LANGLEY — A GoFundMe has been launched to support a Langley family after their 15-year-old son died in a house fire on Wednesday morning.

According to a statement from Langley RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Zynal Sharoom, police were called to a reported structure fire in the 6500 block of 248 Street in Langley at 6:57 a.m. Firefighters from the Township of Langley Fire Department arrived to find the structure fully engulfed in flames. Tragically, a 15-year-old youth was located deceased inside the home, Sgt. Sharoom confirmed.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time,” said Sgt. Sharoom.

Police say the cause of the fire remains under investigation, and there is no indication of criminality at this time. The BC Coroners Service and fire investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragic structure fire.

According to the text of the online financial appeal, the Stadnyk family lost everything in a house fire on 248 Street Wednesday morning, including their beloved 15-year-old son, who had special needs.

“It is with heavy hearts that we ask for support, for a family of six whose lives were forever changed by a devastating house fire,” organizer Krista Spitters wrote. “Their son was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew him. He brought joy, love, and a unique spirit that touched his family and community deeply. No parent should ever have to endure the pain of losing a child, and no family should have to face such overwhelming loss all at once.”

The fire completely destroyed their home, leaving the family without shelter, clothing, furniture, and everyday necessities, Spitters said. As they grieve the unimaginable loss of their son, they are also facing the reality of starting over from nothing.

Funds raised will go directly toward funeral and memorial expenses; immediate living needs (clothing, food, temporary housing); rebuilding and long term recovery support; and counseling and support services for the family.

“This family is navigating profound grief while trying to remain strong for one another. Any donation, no matter the size, will help ease the financial burden and allow them the space to mourn, heal, and begin the long road forward,” Spitters wrote. “If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping this family in your thoughts and prayers. Your kindness, love, and support mean more than words can express. Thank you for standing with this family during their darkest time.”
