Chilliwack, Hope businesses targeted with fake $100 bills: RCMP

CHILLIWACK — Police are warning local businesses about counterfeit money being used in Hope and Chilliwack.

According to an RCMP social media post, male and female suspects have been attempting to pass multiple $100 bills at once, many of which are marked with “prop money” or “copy” and often feature the serial number GKV9181892.

The suspects may cause a scene to pressure staff when challenged.

Businesses are asked to check the serial number and consider posting that $100 bills are not accepted.

Location targets have been convenience stores, grocery stores, department stores, and fast-food restaurants.

“If someone tries to pay with a $100 bill that appears counterfeit, do NOT accept it,” wrote Chilliwack RCMP. “Call Chilliwack RCMP immediately at 604-792-4611.”
