In a second incident involving the same company (or companies), SS Excavating Ltd./ERS was contracted to conduct asbestos abatement and demolition of an Abbotsford home. WorkSafeBC inspected the site while demolition work was underway and workers were loading demolition debris onto a trailer. Suspected asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) were observed in the building and the debris, and WorkSafeBC issued a stop-work order. Subsequent testing confirmed ACMs were still present. The firm failed to ensure hazardous materials were safely contained or removed before beginning demolition work. This was considered a repeated and high-risk violation, earning the company a fine of $11,532.20, dated August 4, 2026.

MVD Hazmat Ltd. generated a fine of $2,500 for knowingly providing a WorkSafeBC officer with false information. Similar to the aforementioned companies, MVD Hazmat Ltd. had been subcontracted to conduct pre-demolition asbestos abatement at a house in Abbotsford. WorkSafeBC inspected the site while demolition work was underway and workers were observed loading demolition debris onto a trailer. The firm furnished a clearance letter indicating all asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) had been removed. This information proved to be false, and subsequent testing confirmed ACMs were still present. MVD Hazmat Ltd. also generated a $5,000 fine for failing to safely contain or remove all hazardous materials at an Abbotsford worksite where they had been subcontracted to conduct pre-demolition asbestos abatement at a house. WorkSafeBC inspected the site while demolition work was underway and workers were loading demolition debris onto a trailer. Suspected asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) were observed in the building and the debris, and WorkSafeBC issued a stop-work order. Subsequent testing confirmed ACMs will still present. The company failed to safely contain or remove all hazardous materials, and failed to have a qualified person confirm that hazardous materials were safely contained or removed. These were considered high-risk violations, earning them the fine of $5,000, dated August 4, 2026.
