Police in Fort St. John, B.C., call third shooting in three weeks ‘unacceptable’

FORT ST. JOHN — Police in Fort St. John, B.C., say three people were shot and hospitalized in the latest in a string of recent shootings in the city.

Mounties say in a release that the shooting on Friday was inside a home on 107A Avenue and the three people hurt were hospitalized in stable condition.

No suspects have been identified in the attack.

The Mounties serious crime unit has taken over the case and searched the home, seizing vehicles on-site for forensic examination, but investigators also say they are seeking the public’s help on the case.

This is the third shooting in the city in as many weeks, including a drive-by attack on Aug. 6 where police found bullet holes in two homes, a travel trailer and a vehicle at the scene.

Police say the frequency of what are believed to be targeted attacks is creating “an unacceptable risk to public safety.”

“The continued use of firearms in our community is unacceptable, and we are dedicating significant investigative and enforcement resources to identifying those responsible and preventing further violence,” says Sgt. Jaime Moffat with Fort St. John RCMP.

Police are asking anyone who may have information on the identities of the suspects, the attacks or anything else linked to the shootings to contact investigators.
