Chilliwack RCMP report another near-drowning incident at Cultus Lake
CULTUS LAKE – Police in Chilliwack say the tragic death of a 13-year-old girl at Cultus Lake underscores the importance of water safety as more information emerges about two near-drownings at the lake.
In the most recent incidents between July 30 and August 10, Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener says security personnel contacted police about reports of a possible drowning near a dock in the Sunnyside area. The exact date of this incident was not provided.
Officers responded and located a man on shore requiring medical assistance. The man reported he was unable to keep himself above water, panicked, and went under after becoming exhausted and unable to self-rescue.
Cpl. Kiener says he was not wearing a life jacket. Fortunately, bystanders pulled him safely to shore before he was transported to hospital for treatment.
