Abbotsford driver pays the price for blazing through construction zone

ABBOTSFORD – A 60-year-old pickup truck driver in Abbotsford paid the price in more ways than one after being caught driving more than 20 km/h above the speed limit in a clearly marked construction zone earlier this week.

The Abbotsford Police Department says one of its traffic officers was conducting proactive speed enforcement on Highway 11 at Hazelwood Avenue Monday morning (Aug. 10) when a vehicle was observed speeding through a construction zone. The motorist was clocked at over 80 km/h in a clearly marked construction zone of 60 km/h.

Upon speaking with the driver, police became suspicious that the motorist had alcohol in their system. Minutes later, the driver was asked to provide a breath sample, which found they were impaired by alcohol.

The driver received a three-day driving ban and a speeding ticket.
