Massive fire erupts at Abbotsford rubber plant
ABBOTSFORD – A massive fire erupted on the property of a rubber plant in Abbotsford overnight, sending columns of thick black smoke into the sky and inundating the city with a strong odour.
City of Abbotsford spokesperson Aletta Vanderheyden told Fraser Valley Today in an email that Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service crews were notified about the fire just after midnight Monday morning (Aug. 10).
Five crews and four paid on-call-halls responded to address a fire in the lot adjacent to the buildings on site.
As of 7:30 a.m., fire crews have contained the fire so it doesn’t reach buildings. Firefighters continue to work to extinguish the fire.
