IIO investigating after man sustains injuries in custody of transit police

NEW WESTMINSTER — The Independent Investigations Office of BC is now seeking witnesses to an arrest on the SkyTrain last week.

Information from the Metro Vancouver Transit Police (MVTP) said officers responded to a complaint about a man harassing other passengers with a weapon on his person aboard an eastbound SkyTrain in New Westminster.

Transit police removed the man from the train, arrested him, and took him to cells at the New Westminster Police Department.

BC Emergency Health Services were then called shortly after 1:30 a.m. to assess the man’s condition before an ambulance took him to hospital for treatment.
