ABBOTSFORD – Police in Abbotsford say the female driver of an SUV allegedly ignored a cordoned-off crash scene Saturday evening, injured an officer when she drove through it, and fled the scene before being caught the following day.

Abbotsford PD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker says police officers were investigating a serious motorcycle collision at Whatcom Road/S. Parallel Road Saturday evening, June 13. A fully marked police vehicle had its emergency lights activated and was stationed across the roadway, while officers on foot were working to manage the scene and maintain its integrity.

At just before 6 p.m., Sgt. Walker says a vehicle approached from the north side of Whatcom Road, and the female driver of the vehicle insisted on proceeding through the closure. Despite being told very clearly to stop, she attempted to bypass the police vehicle by driving onto the curb.

When an officer approached on foot to advise her that the road was closed, she allegedly ignored him and proceeded to drive through. In doing so, she almost pinned the officer between her SUV and the police vehicle.

Sgt. Walker says the male officer suffered minor injuries after being struck by the vehicle. The driver then accelerated through the scene at a high rate of speed. When another officer attempted to stop her on the south side, she failed to stop and fled, reaching speeds of approximately 160 km/hr. For public safety reasons, officers did not pursue. The following day, officers located and identified the driver.

Sgt. Walker says the woman’s SUV has been seized as offence-related property, and a forfeiture application is in the process of being submitted. The woman is facing dangerous driving, flight from police, and assault of a police officer charges pursuant to the criminal investigation. Additionally, an immediate report is being submitted to the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles for a review of her driver’s licence.

“Police are reminding the public that road closures are put in place to protect everyone—emergency responders, those involved in incidents, and the broader community,” Sgt. Walker said. “Ignoring these closures or attempting to drive through active scenes puts lives at serious risk. Public safety depends on cooperation, awareness, and respect for the critical work happening at these scenes.”
