Male youth arrested in connection with 2 street robberies in Abbotsford
ABBOTSFORD – The Abbotsford Police Department now says a male youth has been arrested for his alleged role in a pair of street robberies that happened in April.
According to a statement from AbbyPD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker, AbbyPD patrol officers initiated an investigation into a street robbery that occurred on Tuesday, April 14 at about 2:40 p.m. near Maclure Road and Trethewey Street in Abbotsford. A second street robbery happened on Thursday, Apr. 30 at about 8:09 p.m. along Discovery Trail near Abbotsford Exhibition Park. In both incidents, a lone male suspect – described as South Asian, 17-20 years of age, approximately 5’9” with a slim build – produced a firearm and demanded the victims’ jewelry. Although shaken, Sgt. Walker says the victims were not physically injured during either robbery. In early May, investigators released an image of a suspect vehicle described as a grey 2018–2020 Toyota Camry, possibly an SE model, with an “N” sign displayed on the rear.
Sgt. Walker says Major Crime Unit detectives worked diligently to advance the investigation. Last week on Thursday, May 14, detectives arrested a male youth believed to be responsible for these robberies. A search warrant was executed at a residence associated with the youth, and the suspect vehicle was also located. Since the investigation involves a youth, Sgt. Walker says no further information can be released.
“Public safety remains our highest priority. We remain committed to working proactively and collaboratively with our community to prevent crime, hold offenders accountable, and ensure Abbotsford continues to be a safe place for everyone,” Sgt. Walker said.
