MAPLE RIDGE — Mounties have recently held a private ceremony to commemorate the legacy of the late Constable Mike Pedrosa in Maple Ridge.

On March 10, family members were invited to view the upgraded gym space decorated with tributes to Pedrosa, who passed away from cancer in 2020.

“Constable Pedrosa was an inspiration to many here at our detachment, and we wanted to honour his passion for fitness and camaraderie,” said Maple Ridge RCMP Operations Support Officer Insp. Rochelle Kokkoris.

“This new space is a welcome reminder about what he stood for and his dedication to wellness, resilience, and the continued strength of our detachment community.”

The tributes included his name, regimental number and a quote from his valedictorian speech at the RCMP Depot. Guests were also encouraged to add to the honour by writing messages of hope and resilience on the gym mirrors.

“We are proud to see Mike’s legacy live on in this way and be associated with health and wellness,” said Ida Pedrosa, Mike’s wife. “He touched many lives, and to see his name on these walls is a reminder for everyone to keep going and never give up, no matter what comes your way.”

RCMP and the City of Maple Ridge will be hosting in-house activities to support the well-being of officers and staff during the upcoming Mental Health Week, from May 4 to May 10.

Residents are also invited to help raise awareness of the importance of healthy and safe workplaces during that time.
