CHILLIWACK – Mounties in Chilliwack handled over 800 calls for service the past week, including an incident in which an unidentified man known to police reportedly assaulted two people and an RCMP officer before being arrested.

According to a recap for the week of Monday, March 30 to Sunday, April 5 from Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener, police were called to an undisclosed facility on Trethewey Avenue after getting a report that a man allegedly assaulted another person at that same facility. Not long thereafter, police got a second report about the same man attacking a different victim with a weapon at a different location.

Corporal Kiener says the man fled the scene before police could arrive, but RCMP members were able to locate him a short time later.

“Officers recognized the man right away as he is well known to police,” Cpl. Kiener said. “During the arrest of the man, he assaulted an officer and continued to act irate.”

The man was held in custody for court.

In other incidents the past week:

  • Officers from the Community Response Team were approached by a female reporting her E-scooter had just been stolen. The officer was able to review CCTV and obtain a photo of the suspect. The man was located at a facility on Princess Avenue with the E-scooter nearby. The man was arrested and found in possession other suspected stolen items. The scooter was returned to the owner.
  • Police received a report of a break and enter at a Sardis home on Janis Street (located north of Keith Wilson Road). After being away from the home for a short time, the homeowners returned and discovered signs of someone who had forced entry into their home. Personal items were taken by the suspects. The Forensic Identification Service is assisting in the investigation.
  • Police say a female was loitering near a store on Vedder Road and had been asked to move along by security guards. The female allegedly assaulted the security guard before moving to an adjacent building. Police arrived and located the female who assaulted the officer while being arrested.  The female was held for court.
  • Officers responded to a report of a female in possession of a firearm on Princess Avenue. Upon attendance, officers located the suspect and found her holding an imitation firearm. She identified herself but officers were able to determine she provided a false name. The female was arrested and later positively identified as someone who was well known to police.
  • Police processed 17 missing persons reports, issued tickets for eight impaired driving incidents, and handed out 30 traffic violation tickets for the week of Mar. 30 to April 5.
