Chilliwack firefighters to participate in wildfire training exercise Saturday

CHILLIWACK — Fire crews are gathering for a multi-jurisdictional training exercise in Chilliwack this weekend.

Starting 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, fire departments in Chilliwack, Chilliwack River Valley, Abbotsford and Richmond are heading to Little Mountain and surrounding areas, including Quarry Road and Beaver Crescent, to learn how to navigate situations in Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) areas.

“We appreciate the support of local residents who have volunteered their properties to help make this training possible,” wrote the Chilliwack Fire Department.

While firefighters will be surveying local properties and training for real-world conditions during the event, no live fire will be used. 

The exercise is done in partnership with the BC Wildfire Service.
