Speeding results in impoundments and crashes in Mission
MISSION — A Mission RCMP officer was in the right spot at the right time on a pair of occasions recently.
In the detachment’s weekly round-up report, police say the officer was on Highway 11 near the London Avenue offramp on March 20. He spotted a black Ford pickup truck speeding. The officer pointed their handheld laser device at the truck and recorded a speed of 112 km/h. The 17-year-old Mission woman behind the wheel was given a ticket for excessive speed and had her truck towed away for seven days.
The next night, the same officer was on the Lougheed Highway near Chester Street when they spotted another speeder. This time it was a Dodge pickup truck clocked at 143 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The 50-year-old Surrey man driving the truck received a ticket for excessive speeding and his truck was impounded for seven days.
In yet another speeding incident, a Pontiac car crashed into a power pole at Stave Lake Street and Knight Avenue just after 2 a.m. The crash knocked out power to the area as power lines fell to the ground. A witness spotted several people fleeing from the car. RCMP were able to determine the car was being driven by a 20-year-old man. He had two teenage women with him. The driver was given tickets, including one for speeding relative to the conditions.
