Man seriously wounded in shooting at police traffic stop in Fort St. John, B.C.
FORT ST. JOHN — British Columbia’s independent police watchdog is investigating after a man suffered life-threatening injuries in a shooting involving an officer during a traffic stop.
The Independent Investigations Office and the RCMP have confirmed that the shooting happened Sunday just after 3 a.m. in Fort St. John in B.C.’s northeast.
Police say they made a traffic stop on the vehicle near 86 Street and 97 Avenue after determining one of two occupants inside a pickup truck was believed to have outstanding warrants.
Mounties say someone exited the truck with a weapon, and an officer opened fire.
