Approved FVRD 2026 Budget Plan sees rising costs, tax impact increases across region

FRASER VALLEY — The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) has now moved forward with its latest five-year budget plan. 

On Thursday (Mar. 26), the FVRD adopted its 2026-2030 Financial Plan Bylaw, which projects increases in tax impacts across electoral areas and municipalities under the region’s wing.

The region is responsible for services such as enhanced 911, fire dispatch and mosquito control, as well as any sub-regional services a municipality may be subscribed to. A breakdown of some average residential tax impacts compared to last year is as follows:

  • Chilliwack: $76.84 (+8.52). 

Sub-regional services: Search and Rescue, Animal Control, Transit, Invasive Weed Control, Regional Parks

  • Abbotsford: $82.27 (+7.70)

Sub-regional services: Animal Control, Fraser Valley Express, Invasive Weed Control, Sub-regional FVRD Parks

  • Mission: $90.12 (-0.37)

Sub-regional services: Search and Rescue, Animal Control, Regional Parks

  • Hope: $504.40 (+34.36)

Sub-regional services: Search and Rescue, Hope Airpark, Transit, Regional Mapping, Regional Parks, Hope Arena and Pool, Hope Recreation

  • Kent: $103.32 (+13.74)

Sub-regional services: Search and Rescue, Animal Control, Transit, Regional Parks

  • Harrison Hot Springs: $161.28 (+23.17)

Sub-regional services: Building Inspection, Search and Rescue, Animal Control, Transit, Regional Mapping, Regional Parks

“During these unpredictable economic times, approving this budget was done with precision, sensitivity, and compassion,” said Patricia Ross, FVRD Board Chair. 

“When many people are struggling in our region with rising costs, we focused on the basics, protecting services, limiting increases wherever possible, and planning spending carefully to ensure responsible use of tax dollars while keeping finances sustainable.”
