Japan downs Turkey in playoff to advance to semifinal showdown versus Canada

CALGARY — Canada’s Kerri Einarson will face Japan in semifinal action Saturday at the women’s world curling championship.
The Japanese rink advanced to the semifinal round with a 7-5 playoff win over Turkey earlier Saturday.
Meanwhile, Switzerland will take on Sweden in the other semifinal. The Swedes dispatched South Korea 9-5 in the second playoff contest.
Switzerland (11-1) and Canada (10-2) claimed the first two spots in the overall standings after pool play to to gain direct entry into the semifinals. The other four squads qualified for playoff action.
