Trucker caught at B.C. border crossing smuggling bricks of opium from U.S.: CBSA
VANCOUVER — Border agents in Metro Vancouver have intercepted an attempt to smuggle more than 100 bricks of opium into the country.
The Canada Border Services Agency said on Friday that the seizure happened on Jan. 9 at the Pacific Highway truck crossing on the U.S. border south of Vancouver.
Agents say they began examining a driver of a commercial truck returning to Canada after noticing an anomaly in the truck’s trailer during entry.
The search then turned up cardboard boxes that differed from the packaging normally used for produce shipping, and agents then used a detection dog to identify the shipment.
