MISSION — Mounties helped prevent an apparent drug trafficking last week after conducting a traffic stop in Mission.

Mission RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit pulled over a grey Hyundai Elantra after spotting the incident on the afternoon of March 4.

The 25-year-old driver and 21-year-old passenger were then arrested for possession of a controlled substance for trafficking.

Police searched their car and found suspected crack cocaine, Fentanyl, pills, cash and other drug trafficking-related items.

Both men have been found to have overstayed their Canadian visitor visas and were taken to jail at the request of the Canada Border Services Agency.

The investigation is ongoing.

“A small quantity of drugs” was also seized from two suspects that same week, according to the Mission RCMP’s latest Community Connection.

Officers responded to a report of two suspicious men in the parking lot of a restaurant on Lougheed Highway, where one man reportedly had a ski mask and a hammer, and another held a can of bear spray.

RCMP found the suspects at a convenience store along 1st Avenue and arrested both for the possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The men are “well-known” to police, with one suspect having been released from prison recently.

Both were released from custody as police could not link them to any recent crime.

Lastly, Mission Mounties tackled what started as a coworker’s prank at a local workplace.

The manager said one employee found an envelope with her name on it containing an “unknown white powder”, but when RCMP went to examine the item, another employee confirmed it was simply flour.

“Although this prank was harmless, it was clearly not received in the manner intended – which is not uncommon,” said Mission RCMP. “While there’s nothing wrong with having a bit of fun, just ensure you know your audience, and ensure that you think it through, so the person you’re pranking won’t get frantic over your antics!”

Police in Mission responded to a total of 296 calls last week, from March 2 to March 8.
