CHILLIWACK — A man has been arrested and remains in custody after he entered a Chilliwack Lake Road home this past week with a replica handgun in his possession, only to be restrained until police arrived to arrest him.

According to a recap of the Chilliwack RCMP’s activities for the week of Monday, March 2 through Sunday, March 8, police were called to a home on Chilliwack Lake Road this past week after the homeowner reported an intruder inside their home. The man was being restrained until police arrived.

RCMP members arrived immediately and promptly arrested the intruder, RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener says. The man, who is known to police, was found to have possession of a replica hand gun and had numerous outstanding warrants for his arrest.

The suspect was held for court. Thankfully, no one was injured in this incident, Cpl. Kiener said.

In other notable incidents this past week, an unknown man reportedly threw a rock through the front door of a bike shop in downtown Chilliwack. Numerous items were taken by the man before he fled on foot. Video footage was obtained by the police. A short time later, police attended to a report of a dumpster fire at a veterinary hospital nearby. Cpl. Kiener says items located in the dumpster are believed to be linked to the suspect in the earlier break and enter. The investigation remains open as officers pursue several leads.

An employee from an electronic store on Luckakuck Way says a man who is known to the business had just stolen an E-scooter. Not long after, a nearby recycling centre reported the same man refused to leave the premises, brandished a weapon, and threatened staff. Police identified the man as the same individual from the earlier theft. He was arrested and will appear in court at a later date.

A traffic stop was conducted by an officer in downtown Chilliwack. Two replica hand guns, drug paraphernalia, and suspected illicit substances were observed inside the vehicle. The two occupants were arrested and the driver will be appearing in court at a later date.
