COQUITLAM — Police in Coquitlam are asking for witnesses to a hit-and-run that left one pedestrian seriously injured earlier this week.

On March 3, shortly after 1 p.m., Coquitlam RCMP responded to the single-vehicle collision between a red SUV with an unknown licence plate and a pedestrian at Atlantic Avenue and The High Street.

Officers were told the driver initially stopped, but had since driven away. The vehicle was not located despite patrol efforts.

A witness reported that the victim was walking in a crosswalk when she was struck. Other witnesses also said the driver got out of her vehicle and allegedly told the witness she was going to move her SUV – then drove away as soon as she returned to it.

The pedestrian was taken to a local area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

“The driver involved in this incident knows they struck this pedestrian. In addition to seeking witnesses or dash cam footage, we are asking this driver to do the right thing and contact police,” said Sergeant Adriana O’Malley, Coquitlam RCMP media relations officer.

The driver is described as between 30 and 40 years old, with a chubbier build. She was also seen wearing a form of cultural head dress.

Investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who was in the area of Atlantic Avenue and The High Street in Coquitlam between 1:00 p.m. and 1:10 p.m. and may have witnessed or have dash cam footage of this incident is asked to contact Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2026-5372.
