Abbotsford inmate taken to hospital after assault

ABBOTSFORD — An inmate serving time at an Abbotsford prison has been hospitalized after an assault in late February, according to the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC).

Staff members at the medium-security Matsqui Institution evaluated and took the victim to hospital for treatment on February 26.

The assailants have also been identified and dealt with accordingly.

No other staff or inmates were injured during the incident.

“The safety and security of institutions, their staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system,” said the CSC.

The agency says it will also review the circumstances of the event and take measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.

The injured inmate has since returned to the institution.
