UPDATE, 1:45 P.M. THURSDAY: As of 1:45 p.m., power has now been restored to over 2,700 customers in Chilliwack.

Original story:

CHILLIWACK – Over 2,700 customers in Chilliwack have lost power Thursday afternoon due to bird contact with power lines.

According to BC Hydro’s online dashboard, exactly 2,7763 customers in Promontory, Ryder Lake, Cultus Lake, the Chilliwack River Valley and the surrounding area lost power at 12:34 p.m.

Crews are now on site. They had been expected to arrive by 1:45 p.m., but as of 1:14 p.m., they’re now on site.

BC Hydro spokesperson Kevin Aquino wrote the following in an email to Fraser Valley Today at 1:25 p.m.: “It looks like the cause for power outage was birds coming into contact with our power lines. Our crews just arrived on site and will work towards getting customers back on as quickly and safely as possible.”

There’s another outage in Chilliwack Thursday, but that is a planned outage impacting only 34 residents near the 7400 block of Vedder Road and the 45600 block of Knight Road.
