FRASER CANYON – The District of Hope says construction is now underway on a culvert project along Highway 1 in the Fraser Canyon that is expected to last at least six months.

According to a statement from the district, the Cooper’s Corner Culvert project, as it’s officially known, will consist of public works improvements through September 30, 2026.

Traffic control personnel will be onsite this week and shoulder closures may occur while public works crews install project and traffic signage.

Later in March, there will be a temporary detour around the construction site. That detour is slated to open near the end of March.

The speed limit through the detour will be reduced to 50 km/h, and the detour will remain in place until approximately August 2026, the district said.

As with any construction project affecting provincial highways in B.C., motorists are asked to watch for signage, follow traffic control personnel and plan for minor delays.
