B.C. man facing multiple charges of kidnapping, sexual assault, for alleged role in multiple incidents

MAPLE RIDGE – Mounties in Maple Ridge say a 28-year-old man is facing charges of kidnapping, sexual assault, uttering threats and a host of other crimes for his alleged role in three incidents spanning multiple jurisdictions in B.C.

According to a statement from police, Ridge Meadows RCMP members received a report on January 18, 2026, at 12:40 a.m., that a woman was allegedly being held against her will in a car. The alleged suspect had been reportedly armed and was exhibiting threatening behaviour.

Police say they immediately pursued various investigational avenues and subsequently located the woman and male suspect in north Pitt Meadows. When officers arrived, the suspect was safely taken into custody.

Through collaborative means with policing partners across the Lower Mainland, investigators identified two similar incidents that allegedly occurred in Surrey and West Vancouver on January 15 and January 16, 2026.

Ridge Meadows RCMP, West Vancouver Police, and Surrey Police Service each submitted reports to the BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) in hopes that charges would be assessed and approved.

The BCPS has approved the following charges against 28-year-old Amritpal Singh in relation to the alleged events in Pitt Meadows, West Vancouver and Surrey:

• Three counts of Kidnapping
• Two counts uttering threats
• Three counts of mischief in relation to computer data, text messages and telephone data
• Sexual assault with a weapon
• Assault with a weapon
• Assault
• Two counts of use of an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence
• possession weapon for dangerous purpose

Ridge Meadows RCMP members utilized funding from the Special Investigation and Targeted Enforcement (SITE) program to advance the investigation.

Investigators say they believe Singh identified victims through an online platform and allegedly used it to solicit or offer employment opportunities.

Police say this remains an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with any information that may help advance the investigation is urged to contact their local police of jurisdiction.
