ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford say a motorist suspected of being impaired has been arrested after he allegedly struck two vehicles in the Langley area last week, fled the scene but was eventually caught.

According to a statement from police, AbbyPD officers received a report last Thursday, Feb. 12, just after 4:30 p.m., about a suspected impaired driver who allegedly struck two vehicles in the Langley area and was believed to be heading toward Abbotsford.

A second caller contacted authorities to advise them the same vehicle was observed driving erratically in the Bradner Road area north of Downes Road.

At approximately 6 p.m. last Thursday (Feb. 12), AbbyPD officers located the vehicle on Highway 11. The driver—a 27 year old man—was arrested for impaired driving and now faces criminal charges. He later provided a breath sample reading two and a half times the legal limit.

“What makes this incident especially gut wrenching is that the driver had his four children in the vehicle at the time while impaired by alcohol. Thankfully, none of the children were injured,” AbbyPD said. “Impaired driving needs to stop—full stop. Every time someone chooses to drive under the influence, they put lives at risk: innocent motorists, the entire community, and their passengers. There is no excuse, and there is no scenario where it’s worth the risk.”

AbbyPD says it remains committed to holding impaired drivers accountable and protecting the most vulnerable on our roads.

So far this year, AbbyPD officers have removed 145 impaired drivers from Abbotsford roads.
