WorkSafeBC issues fine of over $63,000 for hazardous work conditions at Langley work site
LANGLEY — WorkSafeBC has issued an administrative penalty of over $63,000 to a Lower Mainland construction company over hazardous conditions at a Langley work site.
According to its website, WorkSafeBC says it conducted an inspection at a Langley Township worksite, managed by Industra Construction Corp, in response to an incident where a worker lost consciousness from carbon monoxide exposure.
WorkSafeBC says its investigation determined that the worker, under supervision, had been exposed to hazardous levels of carbon monoxide after using a gas-powered saw to remove a pipe in an excavation that was classified as a confined space.
WorkSafeBC says Industra Construction Corp. failed to ensure confined space hazards were eliminated or minimized and failed to provide its workers with the information, instruction, training and supervision necessary to ensure their health and safety. It said these incidents were “both high-risk violations.”
