VANCOUVER — Just when it looked like spring was here to stay, old man winter is returning to the Fraser Valley and the South Coast this week. Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement, warning of snow Monday from Metro Vancouver to Abbotsford in the Fraser Valley.

It says a low pressure system is moving south from Alaska and will arrive over the South Coast Monday. It is expected to bring light precipitation in the early morning hours. But as the day wears on, a cold front will sweep across the region, bringing more precipitation and perhaps as much as 10 cm of snow through Monday night.

By Tuesday, a cold airmass is expected to settle over the South Coast and remain there through Thursday. It is expected to deliver intense but short-lived snow showers.

The Special Weather Statement warns that rapidly changing weather conditions can lead to hazardous driving conditions.
