ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford say a 39-year-old man with a history of impaired driving charges failed to get away from police after an early morning crash involving impairment in Abbotsford.

According to a statement, AbbyPD officers were dispatched for a report of a single-vehicle crash in the 3400 block of Old Clayburn Road early Tuesday morning, January 13, just before 1 a.m. Police say the driver had fled the scene on foot but was located and arrested shortly thereafter.

Police say the man, who was not identified nor was his city of residence revealed, was taken into custody for impaired driving. What’s even more alarming is the fact that this incident marks his fifth impaired driving in less four years, and he had just completed a driving suspension on January 6. However, at the time of his arrest early this morning, he did not possess a valid driver’s license and continued to drive illegally.

He’s facing, criminal charges of refusing to comply with a demand for a breath sample and failing to stop at an accident, required under the Motor Vehicle Act, are being recommended.
