Original story:

CHILLIWACK — A Chilliwack small business says it will do its best to continue operations after its store was broken into and sustained significant damage sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning.

SinAmen Bun Co., located at 8810 Young Road across from Valley Toyota, says its store was burglarized, its safe was stolen, surveillance cameras were broken, and front and side glass windshields were shattered.

“As a small, locally owned business, this is incredibly upsetting and discouraging to experience,” the small business said. “We work hard every day to serve our community, and it’s very sad to see things like this happening in Chilliwack. Small businesses pour their time, savings, and love into what they do; incidents like this hurt more than just property.”

The business says it’s cooperating with authorities and doing its best to recover.

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener told Fraser Valley Today in an email that the Chilliwack RCMP detachment is working with the RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Section to further the investigation.

Corporal Kiener says several items were stolen and damage was sustained to the exterior of the building.

In the meantime, the people behind SinAmen say they’ll keep pressing on.

“We will keep you all posted. Trying our best to continue the operations as soon as possible,” the business said.

It’s not the first time the business has been hit by lawbreakers. In January 2023, Chilliwack RCMP announced the arrest of a 40-year-old Chilliwack man in connection with a string of recent incidents involving a BB or pellet gun that resulted in thousands of dollars in damage to windows in downtown Chilliwack. Broken windows were discovered at SinAmen on January 16, 2023. Police obtained surveillance footage which assisted them in identifying and arresting the 40-year-old Chilliwack man.
