FVRD extends local state of emergency

CHILLIWACK — The State of Local Emergency in the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) has been extended two weeks following the latest atmospheric river to hit the region. However the FVRD says the affected area has been reduced.

The declaration now covers the area west of Allison Pool to the western boundary of Electoral Area E. The additional fortnight is meant to maintain the special regulations in place to protect public safety and property.

The Evacuation Order issued on December 19 for two properties on Chilliwack Lake Road remains in effect due to an ongoing concern over a potential landslide. The FVRD says slope stability concerns are limited to just the two properties at this point.

The regional district’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) remains active. Officials will continue to monitor conditions through the holidays and be ready to respond when needed. The EOC public information line is 778-704-0400. It will open to receive messages. Responses will be provided once FVRD offices reopen.
