CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack is focusing on clean-up and renewal as river levels continue to drop around the community.

“Crews continue to clean up debris, assess impacts from heavy rainfall and windstorms, and restore roads,” said the City in an update Friday (Dec. 19).

“Some works require provincial approvals, such as the cleanup of debris under the Keith Wilson bridge, which was completed earlier this week.”

Work and restoration in various parks and trails are still underway as needed, with the following areas now open to the public as of Saturday:

  • Vedder Park to the Peach Creek Bridge, including the Peach Creek Trail loop
  • Lickman Parking Lot
  • Crossing Park
  • The dyke section from Keith Wilson Bridge, on the west side, to the Yarrow Community Centre

All other trail sections should be considered closed at this time, including Qoqó:lem Park.

Evacuation alerts for Patterson Road, as well as for the Wilson Road and Sheldon Road areas along the Chilliwack River Valley, have been rescinded.

The Fraser Valley Regional District maintains its State of Local Emergency for Electoral Area E.

Two properties – 49269 and 49279 – on Chilliwack Lake Road have also been placed under an evacuation order Friday afternoon due to landslide risk.

River forecast authorities have lifted high streamflow advisories for the Chilliwack and Sumas Rivers due to declining flows.
