AGASSIZ — An annual holiday tradition is on track to reach Agassiz tonight (Dec. 19).

At 5:45 p.m., the CPKC Holiday Train will be pulling up outside the Agassiz Agricultural Hall at 6800 Pioneer Avenue with Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies.

Pre-show celebrations begin at 4:30 p.m., including food trucks, visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus, a fire truck tour and more.

Residents are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or cash to help support the local food bank.

“We anticipate this to be a very busy event,” wrote Tourism Harrison in a social media post. “For those driving to the area, we recommend parking away from the venue and walking over. Arrive early and find parking to reduce wait times and overcrowding.”

Drivers are also asked to obey all signs and flagging personnel, and to check DriveBC for updates before heading out.

Parking is available at 6660, 7011, 7026, 7176 Pioneer Avenue and 7170 Cheam Avenue.

Pioneer Avenue from 6438 to 6994 will be closed today from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the event.
