Abbotsford, Chilliwack school districts opening Monday

CHILLIWACK — Nearly all schools across Chilliwack and Abbotsford are gearing up to welcome students back tomorrow as flooding clears up from local roads.

The Abbotsford and Chilliwack School Districts have now announced their reopening for Monday, December 15, with the exception of Semá:th Elementary in SD34.

“We recognize that recent flooding and changing road conditions have caused uncertainty for many families in our community,” said SD33.

“Families and staff are encouraged to use their best judgment when travelling and to follow all local road advisories.”

East and westbound lanes of Highway 1 opened Sunday morning.

The Abbotsford School District will be contacting families directly if their bus routes have been changed, and the Chilliwack School District will continue to work with the Ministry of Transportation and Transit to monitor road and weather conditions.

Both school districts cancelled classes on Friday, December 12, due to recent weather events.
