Chilliwack expects localized floods, increased risk of debris slides ahead of upcoming rainfall
CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack is gearing up for a “prolonged wet pattern” at the start of the week after the latest forecast from Environment Canada.
From Sunday, December 14, to Tuesday, December 16, weather authorities expect snowmelt at higher elevations to run off into local rivers, potentially causing localized flooding and increasing the risk of debris slides due to oversaturated ground.
“City staff will continue to monitor river levels, and crews will continue to respond to weather-related events throughout the weekend,” wrote the City of Chilliwack.
“Staff remain in close communication with the City of Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley Regional District about conditions that may impact Chilliwack.”
