BREAKING: Highway 1 westbound from No. 3 Road in Abbotsford reopens

UPDATE #2: DriveBC reported at 6:15 p.m. Saturday evening that Highway 1 westbound from No. 3 Road is officially open again, after being closed for nearly 48 hours due to flooding. Eastbound between Sumas Way (exit 92) and No.Road (exit 104) remains closed due to water on the road, AbbyPD Sgt. Paul Walker said.

UPDATE #1: AbbyPD Sgt. Paul Walker reported in a video at 5:41 p.m. Saturday evening that Highway 1 westbound from No. 3 Road will be opening in a few minutes westbound from No. 3 Road for all vehicle traffic. Highway 1 eastbound remains closed due to water on the highway.

“We’ve all been waiting for that, we’re 50 per cent of the way there,” Sgt. Walker said in reference to Highway 1 eastbound.

Sgt. Walker expressed thanks to everyone for their patience while the highway was closed westbound between No. 3 Road and Sumas Way.

ABBOTSFORD — DriveBC reported at 5:21 p.m. Saturday evening that crews are currently working to open the westbound lanes of traffic on Highway 1 in Abbotsford.

DriveBC wrote the following at 5:21 p.m.: “Crews are currently working to open westbound lanes to traffic between #BCHwy11 / Sumas Way and No. 3 Rd in #Abbotsford. Eastbound remains closed due to standing water. Crews are monitoring and will reassess at first light tomorrow. #Sumas #ChilliwackBC

Highway 1 has been closed between Sumas Way (exit 92) and No. 3 Road (exit 104) since approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday night, resulting in significant bottlenecks and traffic constraints as motorists now travel on Highway 7 between Chilliwack/Agassiz/Hope and Mission on their way to Abbotsford.
