UPDATE: City of Chilliwack declares state of local emergency from atmospheric river

Update 8:30 P.M.: An evacuation alert has been issued for eight properties on Patterson Road due to heavy rain in the area. City staff have hand-delivered notices to all parties.

More updates will be added as they become available.

Update 2:00 P.M.: The City of Chilliwack has declared a state of local emergency and issued an evacuation order for two properties on Marble Hill Road after a debris slide caused by heavy rain.

City staff have hand-delivered notices to both parties.

CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack says no properties within the City of Chilliwack are under Evacuation Alerts or Evacuation Orders and water levels begin to drop following the conclusion of an atmospheric river event across the Fraser Valley.

According to the city’s website, some localized flooding has occurred in Greendale, between Hopedale West and Spurline Road, and on Sumas Prairie Road in downtown Greendale. High ditches have caused some localized flooding in East Chilliwack along McGuire Road, Upper Prairie Road and Patterson Road.

City crews are monitoring the situation in Sumas Prairie and have been in close contact with Abbotsford civic officials.

Some minor work has been required by the heavy rains such as the clearing of culverts, including one along Chilliwack Mountain Road.

Officials are maintaining a presence on the City’s website, offering flood information.
