CHILLIWACK — The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) has issued an Evacuation Order and Alert for the area of Electoral Area E Wilson Road due to flooding.

The FVRD says residents in the area must leave the designated area immediately. Failure to do so could result in injury and loss of life.

In the order, residents are instructed:

  • If you are in the evacuation ORDER area, you must leave immediately.
  • If you are in the evacuation ALERT area, you must be ready to leave on short notice, or if you feel unsafe.
  • Arrange emergency shelter with friends and family or via ess.gov.bc.ca
  • If you are not in the area, avoid the area.

Residents are being urged to sign up for text, email, phone, and app emergency notifications from the FVRD at www.fvrd.ca/alertable.

A Flood Watch issued by the BC Rivers Forecast Centre, was upgraded to a Flood Warning for Fraser Valley East Wednesday (Dec. 10) afternoon. The warning covers Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Hope, and areas east through Manning Park.

The move comes in the wake of an atmospheric river weather event that Environment Canada is predicting will dump up to 130 mm of rain through eastern sections of the Fraser Valley.
