Alberta motorist ‘unfamiliar with the area’ drives the wrong way on Hwy. 1 through Chilliwack (VIDEO)
CHILLIWACK — A spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP detachment says police were able to resolve a tense situation in which a pickup truck hauling a trailer drove the wrong way on Highway 1 through Chilliwack over the weekend.
A video clip that circulated widely on social media over the weekend depicted two or more occupants inside a vehicle driving westbound on Highway 1 Saturday morning, December 6 at about 5:36 a.m. through Chilliwack. For reference, a highway sign for Young Road (exit 120) appears in the video clip.
As they continue driving in the right lane of Highway 1, they begin to see bright headlights coming directly toward them in the faster lane of westbound Hwy. 1, causing immediate angst. As the wrong way vehicle approached, they honked their horn for a second or two to alert the driver of the pickup truck, which continues past them at highway speed. An RCMP unit follows just seconds behind the wrong way driver with lights and sirens activated.
Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Alexandra Greenley says the wrong way vehicle involved had Alberta license plates and the driver had an Alberta license likewise.
