MAPLE RIDGE/PITT MEADOWS — Mounties with the Ridge Meadows detachment are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying two alleged suspects connected to an assault and attempted robbery investigation.

According to a statement from police, Ridge Meadows RCMP personnel say the incidents underscore the importance of online selling safety as the Christmas holiday season approaches.

Police say the incident happened back on October 10, 2025. At about 8:15 p.m. that night on Oct. 10, Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a report of an attempted robbery in the 12400 block of Harris Road, Pitt Meadows. Police learned that the victim was contacted online regarding a phone he had for sale. When the alleged buyer, and another companion, met up with the victim in the lobby of his building they attempted to steal the phone from the victim. During the altercation, one of the alleged suspects pepper-sprayed the victim before both suspects fled the scene without the phone.

Ridge Meadows RCMP is now releasing photos and surveillance video captured from the incident in the hopes of identifying the two suspects.

Suspect #1 is described as:

  • Black male
  • Approximately 5’8” tall

“While the victim is fortunate that they were not more seriously injured in this altercation, this incident does serve as another reminder to follow proper guidelines when it comes to selling personal goods online,” said Ridge Meadows RCMP S/Sgt. Michelle Luca. “With the holiday season now upon us, we want the public to make informed decisions on protecting not only their personal property, but their personal safety. Use designated safety zones or other well-lit public spaces during daylight hours when conducting in-person transactions.”

Police are offering the following safety tips for online selling:

  • Always let someone know where you are going
  • Travel with a friend if possible
  • Use the RCMP detachment for online meet ups
  • Keep time and distance from people you don’t know
  • Trust your gut
