1 dead after single-vehicle collision at Lougheed Highway Saturday

MAPLE RIDGE — Ridge Meadows RCMP are now investigating a fatal vehicle incident on Golden Ears Way Saturday evening, December 6.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., police responded to a single-vehicle collision at the foot of the Bridge, on the Lougheed Highway overpass, and found a lone adult occupant with significant injuries.

A witness reported that a red Toyota RAV4 travelling northbound lost control and crashed into a light pole before police arrived.

“Despite life saving efforts by the witness and emergency personnel, the woman died at the scene,” wrote Ridge Meadows RCMP. “Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision and investigation is ongoing.”

The light standard was moderately damaged and had started to lean onto the roadway. Maintenance crews have since cleared the debris, and all lanes to the Golden Ears Bridge are open to motorists.
