Over a foot of snow expected on the Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt starting tonight and into Saturday
COQUIHALLA — Environment Canada has issued a yellow level snowfall warning for the Hope to Merritt section of the Coquihalla Highway, where as much as 40 cm of snow could fall by Saturday (Dec. 6) night.
The weather agency says a moist frontal system will bring continuous snow to the Coquihalla Summit starting later this evening.
“Snowfall totals could reach 30-40 cm by [Saturday evening],” the warning said. “[There is the] possibility of 15 cm tonight, 10-15 cm tomorrow, and another 5-10 cm expected before the snow eases Saturday night.”
Environment Canada says the snow could lead to challenging – sometimes hazardous – travel conditions and reduced visibility.
