B.C. police watchdog continues investigation into Burnaby man’s death after arrest

BURNABY — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) has given an update on the ongoing investigation of a man’s death this past summer.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. on July 4, Burnaby RCMP responded to a disturbance call in the 7000 block of Hillview Street, with concerns that the man was also possibly suffering a mental health issue.

Police arrived with a mental health nurse, found him outside a home, and took him into custody.

During the interaction, the man went into medical distress and was given aid. Paramedics then arrived and took him to hospital, where he later died.
