LYTTON — The BC Highway Patrol says a 49-year-old Surrey man is deceased and a Chilliwack man was hospitalized after two tractor-trailers collided Monday morning on Highway 1 near Lytton.

According to a statement from BC Highway Patrol Corporal Michael McLaughlin, police say the crash happened just before 9 a.m. Monday morning, Nov. 24 on Highway 1 on the Tank Hill Bridge.

Police say a blue northbound Kenworth tractor-trailer towing two empty flat-deck trailers collided with a southbound green Volvo tractor-trailer towing two enclosed trailers on Highway 1 on Tank Hill Bridge.

Additional witnesses and video evidence will be paramount in determining whether there is criminality involved in the fatal crash, Cpl. McLaughlin said.

The driver of the southbound Volvo died on scene, while the driver of the northbound Kenworth, a 38-year-old Chilliwack man, was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

“Some key witnesses have already spoken to police, and investigators are looking into the driving behaviour of both trucks leading up to the crash,” said Cpl. McLaughlin “If you have dash camera video, or you saw either of these trucks on the road, police need to speak to you.”

Police have enclosed a picture of the blue Kenworth tractor-trailer unit that was involved in the fatal collision with a green Volvo tractor-trailer. Police are asking for more witnesses who saw the trucks on the day of the collision.
