CHILLIWACK — A specialty hardware store on Yale Road that closed last year after 45 years in business will be repurposed into a completely different business, one that seems to be popping up throughout Chilliwack.

Al’s Supply House at 45732 Yale Road was synonymous with welding and industrial supplies, helium tanks, a prime location on Yale Road, and funny signs beckoning to northbound patrons. It closed in May 2024 after 45 years in business.

That same month in May 2024, the property sold for $1,499,000, according to publicly available records on the BC Assessment website.

The site is now undergoing construction activities and will be repurposed for a group childcare facility.

“We can confirm that a Building Permit and Development Permit for the alteration and/or renovation to a commercial space for a tenant improvement for a group childcare facility have been issued for 45732 Yale Road,” the City of Chilliwack wrote in a statement to Fraser Valley Today.

A former yarn studio in downtown Chilliwack is also being repurposed as a child care studio.

The company repurposing the former yarn studio is Petits Pals Childcare Inc.

Child care facilities have been opening along main thoroughfares in Chilliwack, including Light Childcare Centre at 7075 Vedder Road, and CEFA Early Learning Chilliwack at 7544 Vedder Road, inside the former BC Liquor store.
