UPDATE, 7:45 A.M. WEDNESDAY: Chilliwack RCMP Sgt. Greenley now says a 63-year-old woman from Chilliwack is deceased following a fatal collision with a GMC pickup truck that happened Tuesday afternoon at about 4:22 p.m. on Vedder Road between the Highway 1 overpass and Luckakuck Way.

Sgt. Greenley says the Chilliwack woman was attempting to cross Vedder Road when she was struck by a 2007 GMC Sierra driven by a 63-year-old male, also from Chilliwack.

She says the pedestrian had crossed the roadway halfway and was on the centre median before stepping back into the southbound lanes.

Sgt. Greenley says the driver and witnesses stopped immediately, and first aid was provided until emergency services arrived. Chilliwack Fire Department and BC Emergency Health Services attended the scene; however, the woman was pronounced deceased. Next of kin have been notified.

It was initially reported that the collision involved a semi-truck, Sgt. Greenley said. This was determined not to be the case; the only vehicle involved was the GMC Sierra pickup truck, she said.

Police say investigators have spoken with several witnesses. At this time, there is no indication that speed, alcohol, or driver inattention contributed to the collision.

Chilliwack RCMP continue to investigate and ask anyone with additional information or dashcam footage to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 and reference file number 2025-50265.
