Chilliwack RCMP closes Halloween candy tampering investigation
CHILLIWACK — A spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP says forensic testing into allegations that Halloween candy had been tampered or compromised has come back negative.
Earlier this month, police investigated reports that Halloween candy distributed to trick-or-treaters had been tampered with or contained sharp objects. A statement from police on November 2 indicated there was an open file in which RCMP members had collected statements, candy and wrappers to be examined by its forensic identification section. There were also allegations by residents that some candy contained sharp objects like pins or nails.
According to a statement from Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Alexandra Greenley (formerly Mulvihill), the investigation has now been closed.
“The forensic identification report was negative,” she said. “The complainant was followed up with by the investigating officer. No other reports were received by our office and the complainant was asked if he knew of any other incidents in the neighbourhood. He did not. With no further avenues of investigation our file has been concluded.”
