CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack-area firefighters from four organizations hope to garner community support and help local families and kids through their annual Christmas Toy Drive next month.

Joshua Sawyer, community engagement coordinator with the Chilliwack River Valley Firefighters Society, tells Fraser Valley Today that firefighters hope to bring joy to children and their families this year, just like they did in last year’s successful initiative, known as the Firefighters for Kids Christmas Toy Drive.

During the Christmas season in 2024, Chilliwack-area firefighters collected over 700 toys worth roughly $12,000, Sawyer said.

“We saw a huge need in the community for families needing a bit of extra help and wanted to contribute to the amazing work that Chilliwack Community Services does,” Sawyer said. “There’s also a need for volunteers to help sort toys with Chilliwack community services and we want to bring attention to that.”

They’ll be collecting new, unwrapped toys and accepting cash donations at the Canadian Tire (45495 Luckakuck Way) in Chilliwack on Saturday and Sunday, December 6-7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All contributions will go directly to Chilliwack Community Services to support children in need this holiday season.

“We’ll also be launching a raffle soon to help support this initiative, featuring prizes generously donated by local vendors and businesses,” Sawyer said. “Stop by Canadian Tire on December 6 or 7, drop off a toy, and help us make Christmas brighter for local kids. Let’s come together for families who need it most.”
