HOPE/FRASER CANYON — A 55-year-old Abbotsford woman has gotten her company traffic control truck impounded for a week after she was allegedly clocked at nearly double the speed limit in a work zone on Highway 1 last month.

According to a statement from BC Highway Patrol spokesperson Corporal Michael McLaughlin, police stopped a white Chevrolet Silverado on Wednesday, October 22 shortly after 1 p.m. between Hope and Yale, B.C. The laser reader utilized by police showed the female driver had been truckin’ it at 110 km/h in a 60 km/h construction zone.

Ironically, Cpl. McLaughlin says the truck that was stopped was actually a traffic control truck often used to slow people down in construction zones.

“The driver of the traffic control truck said she was on her way home from work at another construction zone,” Cpl. McLaughlin said. “It’s obviously disrespectful for a construction worker to speed through another construction zone, but the important point is that it’s dangerous. Everyone needs to slow down to protect the people who build and maintain our highways. No one is immune from the law.”
