Stifling defence, Landon Keddy’s 5 TDs power JV Grizzlies to 35-0 playoff shutout

CHILLIWACK — The last time the G.W. Graham JV Grizzlies faced Robert Bateman of Abbotsford, they narrowly came away with a 32-29 nail-biting win on Oct. 16.

Illustrating just how much the team has grown in roughly a month, the JV Grizzlies limited Bateman to -28 yards in the first half while running back Landon Keddy ran for 218 yards and five touchdowns in a resounding 35-0 AAA quarterfinal win last Thursday at Exhibition Stadium in Chilliwack.

Amid swirling winds and consistent rain on its home turf, playing conditions made it difficult for Bateman’s pass-oriented offence to gain a footing, thus limiting any attempts to move the ball on the ground or through the air. Linebackers Tyce Underwood (6 tackles, 2 sack), Bear Deacon (3 tackles), and Cohan Magnusson (3 tackles) were physical on every series by closing running lanes and limiting yards after contact.

In the secondary, safeties Jayden Farmer (3 tackles) and Jackson Gamboa (fumble recovery) powered a unit that gave Bateman’s receivers fits from the opening whistle. Corners Jackson Sutton (1 tackle) and Easton Reinfjell (2 tackles) added several key pass breakups to keep the Timberwolves’ aerial attack grounded.

Up front, the defensive line created constant disruption. Landon Keddy (2 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery), Cole Wallace (1 tackle, 1 sack), Austin Pierce (1 sack), Brady Henderson, and Max Kiener pressured the quarterback endlessly and minimized any chance for Bateman to establish a run game.

Offensive line takes over as Keddy runs wild

It took a few drives for Graham’s offence to establish momentum in the less-than-ideal conditions, but once the ground game ignited, G.W. Graham dictated the pace of play. Running behind a dominant offensive line — Brady Henderson, Cole Dempsey, Austin Pierce, Cooper Cools, and Max Kiener — Keddy delivered a standout performance. Keddy bolted for 218 yards, five touchdowns, and a two-point convert on 21 carries, consistently breaking tackles and finding daylight.

Supporting the attack were Jaiden Sakounchareun with 52 yards on 4 carries, Cohen Magnusson with 33 yards on 5 attempts, and Dawson Holdridge, adding 17 yards on 3 carries.

Sakounchareun also recorded the team’s lone reception — a 14-yard grab from quarterback Ben Fleenor, who managed the offence efficiently despite the wind and rain.

Looking Ahead – Semifinals at Home
